The fine print
- What this compares. Your current average power bill of $135 a month against your solar payment of $105.00 a month, over 25 years. Utility escalated at 7.5% per year, solar at 2.99% per year.
- Still connected to the grid. You are still connected to the utility grid and would be expected to pay a small fixed monthly rate, considered the standard connection fee.
- Penn Power (FirstEnergy) rates are moving. FirstEnergy's Pennsylvania utilities, Penn Power included, raised the residential Price to Compare again on June 1, 2026, with increases running about 6.9% to 11.9%. That followed increases of roughly 6.1% to 8.9% on December 1, 2025 and about 5% to 8% in June 2025, driven largely by a sharp rise in regional grid capacity costs. Past increases do not guarantee future ones.
